Price the same truck and the same delivery scope
A useful wrecker price comparison starts with a frozen configuration: chassis, deck or recovery body, winch, attachments, tools, documents and acceptance tests. Ask each supplier to separate the base vehicle, options and exclusions. An unpriced attachment is still a purchasing question, even if the headline truck price is lower. Write the Incoterms rule, named place and version into the quotation. Incoterms allocate delivery tasks, costs and risks, but do not set the contract price, payment timing or remedies for delayed delivery. Agree on those separately. Ask what starts the lead-time clock
Do not accept "delivery in a number of days" without a start event and an end event. Ask whether the period starts at deposit receipt, final drawing approval or chassis availability, and whether it ends at factory readiness, port handover or arrival. For a batch order or tender, request a unit-by-unit configuration list, substitution rules, inspection sampling or individual test requirements, and the proposed release sequence. If CKD or SKD supply is requested, treat it as a separate technical and commercial scope: define the packing list, assembly responsibility, testing and destination approval work. Separate chassis, body and component warranty questions
Request the applicable policy for the chassis, the recovery body and major bought-in components. Put the start event, time or usage limit, exclusions and claim process beside each one. Close the unanswered items before purchase release
Attach the approved configuration, inspection scope, document list, commercial exclusions and milestone schedule to the order. Keep a written record of unresolved items rather than treating an attractive total as acceptance. Estimate your wrecker acquisition and holding costs
Enter your own amounts in one currency. Include each cost once, and enter 0 for a confirmed zero cost. No exchange conversion or price lookup is performed.
Amounts: non-negative numbers, a decimal point and up to two decimal places, with no currency symbols or thousands separators. Holding period: 1–100 whole years (an input limit, not a recommended vehicle life).
Acquisition cost = vehicle + additional options + additional freight/insurance + import/local costs.
Net holding cost = acquisition cost + annual operating/maintenance budget × years − expected resale value.
This simple model does not calculate taxes, financing, inflation, downtime or revenue. Include relevant running costs in your own budget and compare only scenarios with the same scope. Calculating a scenario does not submit an enquiry.
